Abstract

Emotional dependence is a relevant risk factor in women victims of violence; however, it remains unknown how its levels differ according to characterological and sociodemographic factors. The objective was to determine these differences in women attending the Legal Medicine Institute of Pacasmayo, Peru. A descriptive-comparative design was applied with a census sample of 150 participants; instruments included a sociodemographic and characterological exploration form and the Emotional Dependence Inventory (IDE). Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis tests and Games-Howell post hoc comparisons. Results revealed statistically significant differences in characterological factors (type of violence, p<.001; psychological affectation, p<.001) and sociodemographic factors (age, educational level, marital status, number of children, and occupation, p<.05), with weak effect sizes (d=.06-.12). The highest-risk profile corresponded to women aged 18-23, married, with completed secondary education, homemakers, and victims of physical violence with associated psychological distress. It is concluded that emotional dependence responds to the confluence of multiple variables, requiring systematic assessment protocols and multidimensional interventions in forensic and clinical services.
