Abstract

This review article examines the state of participatory and democratic coexistence among basic education students in Peru. A basic research with a qualitative descriptive approach was conducted, using documentary review to analyze 47 articles published between 2019 and 2023 in indexed journals and university repositories. The study identified five main dimensions: student participation, coexistence norms, responsibility, democracy, and conflict management. Results indicate that the level of participatory and democratic coexistence at the national level is regular, while in the Piura region it ranges from regular to poor. It is concluded that strategies to improve school coexistence need to be implemented, involving all educational actors, families, and authorities.
